Ancillary Products - Do's & Don'ts

When producing my own Digipak for my groups artist and album, there a several points which will help me to make a successful product.

The DO's?
  • Two fonts maximum, that are clear and readable, but also are suitable for the genre of my artist
  • Three colours maximum, these fonts need to be suited to each other, of otherwise they will stick out and look out of place. These colours also need to be linked to the colours in the photos, and may also have a link to the music video.
  • Clear Photos, my photos used have to be clear, and genre appropriate.
  • Rule of thirds, make sure that writing, icons(record label etc) and images are placed evenly and clearly.
  • And remember to use all of a digipak's aspects which include barcode, date, copyright info, title of the album, artists name, record company logo, website and artist website.
The Don'ts?
  • Don't over use Photoshop, use appropriately, for example I shouldn't use any unnecessary effects on images.
  • Stretch images, images that I use should be sized accordingly to the CD panel.
  • Don't place text over the artists face.
  • If I don't want to I don't need images on every panel of the Digipak, because this can make it look repetitive, and uninteresting.
