RESEARCH: DigiPak Do's and Don'ts

DO:

Stick to two clear fonts as a maximum. Make sure that they complement eachother and are appropriate for the genre you are following. Watch the sizing.

Stick To THREE Colours
As a maximum. Make sure that they go together well, fit the genre correctly and suit the colours in the photos. Preferably, use colour that go with the music video- e.g In our video we had white and purple and black as our colour theme, we didn't make the video too colourful so we chose those 3 colours for our digipak also.

Use CLEAR PHOTOS that are in focus. Don't use pixelated photos either becuase it will make the digipak look like it was made in microsoft paint. Make sure that they are the appropriate shot-size for the size of your pane, and make sure that they are generically appropriate.

Follow the rule of thirds for composition.

Include barcode, date, copyright info, title of the album, artist name, record company logo, website, and artist website and all other small print onto the tracklist side of the album- it's still meant to look professional even if it's for a fake artist.

DON'T:

Overdo the editing. Once you get the hang of photoshop effects it's easy to get carried away but make sure it looks professional and RELATES to the genre of your artist.

Stretch images to fit the panel ! If you want the panel background to match the picture background- use the background fill tool ! or If the picture doesn't fit across the panel, use the magic wand tool to get the image with out the background and hold SHIFT while adjusting from the corner point,

Place text across the face of the artits, you are promoting a NEW artist, you need to establish to people who this artist is.

Feel the need to put pictures on each panel. After researching digipaks, you'll find most albums ave a booklet which features all the photos so you don't need to try and fit them all on 2/3 panels !
